ALTC of Southest Washington is a publicly funded agency that serves as a conduit for state and federal funds designated to help seniors and others needing long-term care.  ALTC subcontracts with many other agencies that provide a variety of essential services.

Adult Day Services,

Adult day health services provide social and recreational opportunities, as well as some therapies and health services.  A secondary benefit of adult day care is caregiver respite.

The official public health agency, the health department's purpose is to assist citizens in attaining and maintaining optimal health.

Dial-A-Ride Service, Transportation through Ben Franklin Transit

An application must be filled out for Dial-A-Ride Services, and there is a 20-day waiting period for application processing.  Participants must call 24 hours in advance to make a reservation.  Transportation service is available in Kennewick, Pasco, Richland, and part of West Richland.  No transportation is available on Sunday.  Call to schedule a ride or fee/application information.

Home Care and Home Support Agencies, (Chore Service)

Home Care Services provides personal care, respite, homemaker, and other non-medical services such as shopping, transportation, and supervisions.  Available 24 hours pers day, seven days a week, with no minimum-hour requirement.  All home care staff are trained, bonded, and supervised.  Licensed by the state, Home Care Services has been locally operated as a non-profit community service for more than 22 years.

Freshly prepared, hot nutritious meals for seniors are available at affordable prices.  For active seniors, hot meals are available at seven Senior Dining Centers in Benton-Franklin Counties, including at the Kennewick Senior Center, 500 South Auburn, Kennewick.  For homebound seniors, meals are delivered to your door by wonderful volunteers.

Medicare is a comprehensive federal health care insurance program administered by the Health Care Financing Administration, providing hospital and medical insurance to persons entitled to Social Security (SS) benefits.  To be eligible you must be 65 or older (and have received SS); have permanent kidney failure (at any age); or be under 65 years and have been on SS for 24 months.  Apply three months before you need coverage. 

Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP)

RSVP recruits and involves seniors 55+ and older in community-wide projects.  RSVP recruits volunteers for more than 140 agencies and organizations throughout the community.  It is a great opportunity to contribute your time and energy, helping to achieve positive results for both yourself and your community.  There's an opportunity waiting for you at RSVP!

The Kennewick Senior Center welcomes all persons "50 and better" to participate in a wealth of recreational and social activities.  You can experience life long learning and wellness through safe, quality programs, classes, and services at this active center.  A hot Meals-on-Wheels lunch is also served at 11:30 a.m. Monday through Friday.   The Kennewick Senior Center is open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, and limited programs are offered in the evening hours and weekends. 

All of the senior centers are wonderful places to gather and make friends, get support, and have fun.  The centers offer a range of opportunities, services, and programs.  Call for hours, activities, and programs.

Senior Companion Program

No fee service for seniors 60+.  Assistance and friendship to at-risk elderly and adult individuals with special needs is provided.  By taking care of simple chores, providing limited transportation, and offering contact to the outside world, Senior Companions often are essential in assisting the individuals to live independently.

Social Security (SS) provides benefits to you and your (eligible) family members.  Benefits originate from the money you (or your spouse) paid during the years worked.  Funding for today's beneficiaries is paid by today's workers.  You may apply for Social Security benefits approximately three months before your retirement.  Benefits may be rewarded to persons 62 and over.  Reduced benefits can be obtained at age 62.  In 2003, a change in age for Social Security recipients went into effect to gradually change the full benefit age for SS recipients from ages 65 to 67.  If you were born in or before 1937 you are entitled to full SS benefits at 65 years of age.  If you were born after 1937, check with the SS office for complete details as to when you may receive full benefits.

People for People - Medicaid Transportation

This medical transportation broker, under contract with DSHS, arranges for covered medical appointment transportation through a variety of resources.  A medical coupon is required and reservations are needed 24 hours in advance.
